Modern Japanese cuisine, I recommend the tasting menu. Service - amazing, they made a last minute reservation possible since the other restaurant was flooded. Really grateful I had the chance to visit this place instead. The staff is as friendly as possible, very attentive and just wonderful. Food - I went for their better tasting menu and don’t regret it. They serve multiple courses, all very different so great arrangement. Well presented, great mix of flavours and textures. Atmosphere - modern place, good music, the presentation of the dishes, modern flavour. The whole restaurant fits in this concept of “modern Japanese cuisine” and I love it. Yes, I recommend going there.

Amazing experience of fusion Japanese food. The cocktails are delicious and refreshing. Also has super friendly staff who were happy to recommend the best vegetarian options. The food is out of this world! The best dish has to be watermelon sashimi and smoky tomatoes. I Can’t wait to go back!

Amazing place with great vibes and food. My husband and I came for our anniversary and loved the experience. They looked after us with a corner table, and the service was attentive. We ordered a variety of dishes to be able to try as much of the menu as we could, and nothing disappointed. The watermelon sashimi was incredibly unique and we were very pleasantly surprised! Prawns were fresh and creamy in texture. Corn ribs and chicken skewer were satisfying sides. And both main proteins (pork and chicken) were cooked beautifully. It’s got a very cool atmosphere, a modern take on the izakaya. As others have said, it’s not the cheapest but we splashed out a little for our special event and I would recommend checking it out for an occasion!

Been here twice now and had a great experience both times. The service is excellent, attentive and knowledgeable without being in your face constantly! Was good to see that the manager is hands on and leading by example, personally speaking with all customers and making sure they are happy. Trust them and go with the Chef's choice banquet and you will not be disappointed. The food is different, clever and very good value. Highly recommended.

The food at Kid Kyoto is excellent. They are so accommodating to individuals with dietary requirements and the food is delicious. The service is also outstanding. I would come here more often but it’s a little on the pricey side, but totally worth it! So it’s great for special occasions such as when overseas colleagues are in town.

This restaurant is located in the heart of the Sydney CBD but is located off a quiet lane way so you have no idea you’re in Australia’s largest city. Serving an eclectic mix of modern Japanese cuisine, the dishes are tasty and filling. We had the ‘Trust Us’ banquet where the staff bring you a number of different dishes and were amazed at the quality of the food. It is pricey so best saved for special occasions but definitely worth a visit.

Nice atmosphere with private and sharing tables. You have an iPad where to put your order through which I found very convenient and Japanese style. Green tea served in a lovely cup which keeps it warm for a long time. Service quite fast even if the place was busy. Food was good and making you feel full but not heavily. It's been a year since coming back to this place. This used to be a nice Japanese restaurant but I was very disappointed by the quality of the fish served tonight, it was not fresh and somewhat fishy smelling. The soft shell crab in the spider roll was inexistent in some of the rolls. Originally we ordered a rainbow roll but that order was forgotten. I was introducing an overseas visitor to an "authentic Japanese restaurant" but it was a let down. I will not be going there again considering the price there was no value nor service... The pickled ginger tasted off. I hope the owner works to improve the quality of food and service... Such a shame ....

I saw many good reviews, but I thought what I ordered (which was somewhat basic) wasn't that good. I forgot to take pictures of all my food! The chicken teriyaki took forever to come, I was ready to ask about the status but the service was not that good, they were walking past me quickly and not asking how things were. I was not impressed with the chicken teriyaki, and was disappointed after waiting so long for it.

A fantastic Japanese restaurant, highly recommended. For lunch you can expect to pay up to $33 for a Bento Box, which, yes it sounds expensive but it is worth it for the delicious, top quality, fresh food. Service was fantastic, food came out quickly for a table of ten, awesome team lunch venue.

Came here and got the Masuya Course for my girlfriend and I as part of her birthday celebration. Hands down one of the best sushi experiences we've had ever had. The food prepared by our chef was amazing, not to mention the professional service by the friendly Aney 🙂. We had a wonderful time, will definitely be back soon!

I used to be a fan of Masuya, but this time very disappointed. Service so unprofessional, after been told that the seafood hot pot was ready, I found out one of the fish was still uncooked. When I ask the waitress for an explanation, they said yes with smile and tell me they will check with the kitchen,but just disappeared after then. So I asked another waitress, but she just muddle through with some general “sorry , I don’t know why” ， horrible customer service and very rude. I will never come again and will show it to my friends. People whoever want to try this restaurant, I would highly suggest to double check the hot pot before you eat.

Amazing food and really great vibes. Ordered about 9 dishes (thought they would be small!) but definitely enough to eat between the two of us. Most interesting were probably the eggplant 2 flavour (a great fusion of Asian and western flavours) and the Scallop or sushi taster plate. Least favourite would've been the popcorn shrimp as it was just a bit too fried. Last dish of braised beef was too much that we got takeaway but I'm not of a fan of the strong meat flavour/smell.

I would recommend the pork katsu. The salmon roll was nice but it was quite pricey for the amount of rolls it came with (6 rolls). The chicken skewer tasted average, a bit on the dry side. Also a bowl of rice was $4. Overall the quality of some dishes were great but I find the portions to be quite small for the price paid.

Recommended place to dine for quick and delicious Japanese styled meals. Ordered the Ontama BBQ beef bowl with spinach salad side and green tea. The service was fast, the food was tasty and the place was clean. The meals are also great value. Located away from the busy George st.

Great cheap and fast eats. If you're in a rush or low on funds, then this is the place for you. Oiden Bowl Bar has just the fill with your favourite Japanese rice combos. Great if you're by yourself or with a friend. There's even the option of going to the any of the three neighbouring Japanese noodle and rice stores and sitting together with different meals which is awesome. Shared seating means that your friend who likes noodles is happy and your other friend who likes rice is also happy.

Discovered this place through Google Map reviews and well done Google Guides! The wagyu beef bowl was delicious and value for money and the little sides such as bamboo shoots were really yummy. We went around 1145 hence there were ample seats and no queue. The only small gripe was lots of plastic cups used.

As a Japanese food addict, I do really like exploring nice Japanese meals outside of Japan. This restaurant definitely is a must-try around Sydney CBD. There is a wide range of selections, from pork, beef, plain udon to tempura rice bowl. There are also several side dishes, like seaweed salad, fried chicken, to choose from. Even after ordering one main meal and 3 extra side dishes, they only cost me a total of 13.60 AUD, which is a very reasonable price to eat around Sydney CBD. The taste of the food was very authentic and really tasty. I did have a feeling of being in a local restaurant in Japan when eating this meal.

Have been a great fan of Oiden since 2017. The best choice if you want a healthy, yummy and quick Japanese lunch around $10 near Town Hall. The seat setting makes it easy even if you are on your own. My top 3 choices are raw salmon with half-boiled egg (pic 1 top), roast beef curry (pic 4), and the recent tuna poke bowl (pic 5). Oishii desu!!!!!

Ordered 4 meals there, including two eel bento boxes. Both two eel meals have lots of bones in the eel, Lots bones!!!! It’s every bite of eel could potentially hurt your throat. We saw this place has every high rating we came here have a very high expectations, but end up very disappointed!!! Deep fried tofu, meat ball and crabs were all not fresh when served. We both gave up eating the eel, the shop admitted it’s their fault, delivery issue(low quality eels were delivered on that day?) and explained eel meal shouldn’t have bones. However refused gave us any refund for the two meals of eels, which costed us $51. Their supervisor/manager eventually agreed gave us the salad for free as apologies, which worth $13. Very disappointed with the food and customer service. Not recommend to go, at least not for those eels!

The dining experience is pretty unique and there’s no doubt the Katsu is delicious. We found a lot of the side dishes to be a lacklustre and don’t add any value to the overall meal - cold spring roll, cold omelette etc. nevertheless, one of the better, affordable Japanese places in town

It’s a bit of a “fast food” place. The staff is friendly; the price is reasonable; the portion is good and the quality of the food is ok. My friend recommend this place and it’s very popular. You probably have to wait a little bit, but it goes quick. It’s worth the try.

This is one of my favourite go-to Japanese food in the city. The servings are quite big and are definitely worth every bang of your buck! They have daily lunch specials, which are usually what I go for because I am never disappointed (pictured is the grilled fish special). The staff are very polite and friendly. The restaurant usually plays soft music to accompany the customers' dining experience (not loud music).

For people who’s willing to spend money on food, I think you will get much better service and experience else where. Waitress wasn’t paying attention to details and service was not close to even average level you could expect from a Japanese restaurant. Food wise, it’s mean and cutting corners, Alcohol menu has half of the items unavailable. I’m not sure how this kind of restaurant will survive, wish you good luck!

A late review, but one that had to be made. I had dinner on a Saturday, so advance booking was required. My group of 4 was required to choose the set menu. If you enjoy Japanese, then chances are that you'll be pleased by Sasaki. I think my favourite was the Egg custard. Least favourite would be corn & beetroot. This one had bits of corn shaped into a sphere and was attached to a skewer. It was awkward to eat and too hard to bite into. Everything else, I’d go back for because each dish was just bursting with flavours in the best kind of way. The space had indoor and outdoor options, however, both are on the tiny side. Aesthetically, it speaks Japanese and maintains its authenticity. Maybe I was in a good mood on this evening, but it gets a solid 4.5-5 stars for me.

I would recommend Sasaki to anyone who is looking for authentic Japanese dining. Sasaki is a wonderful secret that we discovered in the heart of the city. Sasaki has developed a menu that authentically presents Japanese food with care, in an intimate space that is very well considered. We had a wonderful Valentines dinner. The food was wonderful, and uses flavours in a subtle but effective way.

I’m a fan of home cooked Japanese food, and albeit a lot of the flavors and ingredients are simple here I think this is done right as advertised. If you’re looking for fancy - probably look somewhere else. If you are looking for Japanese home cooked done in a nice and inventive setting - this is it.

I have been to Sasaki over 5 times and it is hands down my favourite Japanese restaurant in Sydney. Being of Japanese background, I am very picky with my Japanese food. it's hard to find authentic Japanese food in Sydney these days, as now they are mostly fusion or not run by Japanese people. Sasaki is as authentic as it comes and is Japanese owned. Every time I go, I am never disappointed. If you're looking for authentic Japanese food, which is simple, healthy and delicious - then this is the place for you. If you're looking for more contemporary Japanese, sushi and tempura, then perhaps find somewhere else. Also if you have a really big appetite, perhaps also best to go somewhere else.

For those who expect table service, please go elsewhere because this is a Japanese fast food outlet where you first order at the counter. While you are burdened with your food, you shall now search for a seat and you most likely will end up amongst a bunch of strangers. And please return your tray and dishes when you are done!! Anyway, I really like the concept here because it is "fast". The food here is nothing special but it gives you 2 things: flavour and a bulge in your abdomen. One thing to be careful about is when you are picking your toppings, you can easily over-order and end up with a massive bill...

Had noodle with some tempura. Was good taste and kind staff. Clean Fast serving Its like Japanese fast food restaurant. Not a deep soul food but quite nice. Good price. there are many guests and the restaurant is small, guests should take their food and return it after eating. Busy place.

Fine Japanese dining in Australia? Sure, and it turned out to be very good. The ambiance has some Japanese themes to it, so you definitely get the full show here, including their tasting menu. My favorites include the ocean trout, mouth fish, and the chocolate mousse cake. Service was superb. Ambiance was quiet, private, and romantic.

Another special occasion. It has been over 10 years since we last went and we were sorry we haven't been more often. It's amazing to sit in a private building looking out over a private Japanese garden in the middle of Sydney. The food really is good and the signature dish of the trout with kombu crumbs on top is worth going back for alone. I really did enjoy the service - efficient, discreet but there was definitely a lot of personality and humour from the servers which made us appreciate them more. A lovely lunch and we won't leave it so long next time.

Service was also amazing. My boss commented that one of the tables got served faster than the other (we had a private room with multiple tables). Waitstaff can’t help if some people eat faster than others! Will go again for another special occasion. I was last here more than ten years ago and it was amazing then and it’s still amazing now. First time was to celebrate my sister’s pregnancy; they actually modified all the dishes she couldn’t eat into something more appetizing than what the non-pregnant people were having. This time around, it was a work function. The dishes were still outstanding. The criticism that most make is that the dishes are not as impressive as when they first came out; others have caught up. That’s not negative to me. Their standard is still high.

Valet parking on site at a reasonable cost makes arriving to the restaurant problem free and easy. Finally, take advantage of the truffle butter spread! They do replenish it! Food is amazing, ambiance and service is also equally good. The quietness and zen garden transports you into a feeling that you are no longer in a bustling city! Definitely worth going for a special occasion.
