Great value for $3 tacos... We had the pulled pork, chicken and fish. My favourite was the pulled pork. Definitely threw on some hot sauce because I wanted the spice level increased a notch. Will most definitely revisit (on a Tuesday). If I didn't have to return to work, a jug of margarita on the side would have completed the experience 😊

Barrio Cellar is amazing. The staff are super friendly and always on hand when you need them. The food is incredible - especially the prawn quesadilla! They have daily specials including $10 burger Mondays and Taco Tuesdays. I'm a weekly diner with no regrets.

Barrio Cellar is certainly worth a try and has been on my radar for quite some time but get in quick and make sure you book because this place is going to get busier. I luckily made a booking for a light dinner and arrived a little early. I was escorted to the bar to order a drink whilst the table was prepared. The bartender was awesome and explained the options surrounding tequila and their Mezcal menu.

Went for a date night with my boyfriend. Omg the food was amazing. The tacos here delicious... the cocktails where unreal!!! Best Mexican iv had in a long time... Staff so helpful and friendly.. the mood and atmosphere made the evening! Will definitely be back maybe with the girlies!! Highly recommended!!!

I very rarely write reviews but felt compelled after my overwhelmingly positive experience from last night. From the moment I arrived all staff were friendly, proficient and attentive. No wonder it was full by 7pm. I highly recommend this establishment

Group of 6 and we all had pretty average food. No one really enjoyed their meal. All mains were cold, and the burrito bowl had a huge inedible lump of rice the size of a fist in it. We couldn’t work out if it was frozen or just a rock solid hunk of old dried up rice. You can get better (and tastier) nachos in any pub, and burgers definitely not worth a visit. Nothing seemed particularly fresh. The staff were friendly and apologetic, but we were still charged for everything. This was the first visit so I can’t say if it was typical experience but I probably wouldn’t eat here again. Service was quite fast so good for lunch in a hurry, but makes you wonder why it was all so cold it made and served quickly?

The place was ok. Nicely decorated and the staff friendly. Food came out quickly and everyone in my group ate at the same time. Spicy garlic wings was not spicy enough. I did not like the sauce that came with it. If it was a blue cheese sauce, it was not creamy enough for it to stick to the wings when dipped. 1kg burritos was impressively huge!

This is a lovely not for profit place. The tacos were delicious. I understand that the staff are volunteers, and they were all very friendly. Service was a little slow when busy. It's a nice, big space, so good for functions or big groups. Sangria was tasty, but could definitely be stronger. Not a whole lot of drinks options on offer, best for beer drinkers.

Amazing food, it really tasty and fresh, the tortilla soup it’s the best that I have tried so far, all the dishes are big and delicious. I went with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday party and they were great. They have a kind of Mexican mariachi that night. I have been a couple of times already and I haven’t ever been disappointed. It’s always good !!

Really wanted to like this place after reading so many positive reviews, perhaps we got unlucky with what we ordered but left somewhat disappointed. The home made corn chips were probably the highlight alongside a decent guacamole but our tacos were pretty average. Chicken was dry and the fish tacos were made with what I could compare to deep fried fish fingers? Service is nice with friendly staff, paying $90 for 3 of us it ain't exactly a cheap eat either.

After a disappointing Mexican food we had at Port Mac I was destined to find authentic Mexican cuisine. And thank goodness for this little restaurant in Crown St Surry Hills. The food was awesome. Reasonable price and big portion. Love it.

100% the best burrito I've ever eaten and that's no exaggeration. This place is legit! They have actual Mexican staff and the customers were mostly South American during the time I went. It's a refreshing change from the typical white and Asian staff you normally see working at Tex Mex places. The serving sizes are generous and the staff are really nice. This is a must visit if you like authentic Mexican food!

I stopped by Chula while I was out for a ride in Sydney today. Diego was the bar-man who served me. Absolute legend. He’s from Mexico and gave me the run-down on the cactus taco was chowing down on. I tried every taco on the menu and they were all great. The meats are juicy and each one tasted different to the other. I also liked that they had a bit of spice. None of that bland “we cater for local white-folk tastebuds BS” At $7+ a taco; these are not cheap tacos but you can taste the quality. Would recommend this place to anyone and I will definitely be back. Thanks guys!

Staff are friendly and are exceptionally helpful when going through the menu. This is a very unique Mexican food place - and not your every day 'Mexican' fast food. Make sure to explore the menu completely! Authentic, and delicious. This is absolutely one place where you have to keep going back to try everything.

I want to start with the positive... The food is quite delightful. Fresh and full of flavour, well plated and great varieties including vegetarian options. The service, however, is among the worst you can find in the city. Our drink orders , once taken, took well over 20 minutes to arrive each time we ordered (this included wine). I picked something off the actual cocktail menu which confused our first server while my friend ordered a classic cocktail with whiskey (an odd choice for a tequila bar, to be fair) which came out wrong. He didn't have a chance to tell them before our server dropped them off and then disappeared for another 15 minutes. I eventually had to go up to politely ask if they could remake it with whiskey to which not one but two different staff members wasn't even sure if they carried the spirit. 15 minutes later it arrived before the server disappeared again without taking any food order. Each and every time we needed something we had to track someone down and ask for it (to their credit all the staff were kind and cheerful once you got in contact with them). But despite us obviously having to go out of our way to interact and engage people for our food and drink orders not once did anyone acknowledge the lack of service, apologise, or check in to see how everything was going. I couldn't even figure out if a manager was even on duty as it only seemed to be servers and a host on the floor. A really frustrating and disappointing experience, especially given that the food was pretty great and it occupies such an iconic space in the Cross.

Great Mexican food "down under". The tacos were tasty as was the corn appetizer. Tou must finish off the meal with the Churro sandwich! Presentations were lovely and flavors were spot on! Portions were on the small side and it was a bit pricey given the portion size, but overall it was great!

Went back here the second time for my husband's birthday with a big group and the service and food was disgusting! The portions were tiny and not tasty for the price per person. Plus, they took advantage of us. Every couple and single person had paid for their share individually. However, at the end of the night they said there was still over $400 left to pay. After we had paid for our food and drinks too. We took photos of ever receipt. But some people paid in cash. After many emails of back and forth and us making a spread sheet of payments and coming to speak to management in person, it had turned out the waiter didn't account for 2 payments with cash and my payment on my credit card. It was a terrible experience and we are definitely not going back here. They returned our money with an apology, but that's not good enough!

My friends and I frequently order in from GYG, and we absolutely love how filling, delicious, flavourful, and wallet friendly the food is! While it is not cheap, the ingredients are all of a high quality and it is a lot more fulfilling and nutritious than eating fast food. We had nice time here but we were extremely disappointed with food. Considering that it is Mexican food in question it was flavourless. It was so bland I wanted to go to Ryan's and get salt and pepper shakers, some chilly peppers etc :/ The people that work in kitchen spoke Spanish so let's presume that they are from Mexico, they could have made it more authentic. Will give them one more try. On the other hand beer was delicious and people who are working there are really friendly.

Surprisingly, this place beats just about any Tex-Mex place back in the States, and it is in freakin' Australia -- about as far away as you can get. Similar to Chipotle, but I think a bit better. Had a chicken burrito with chips and guac on the side, and it was great. Seriously great. The chips were warm and seemed freshly made, the chicken was spiced just right, and I'd eat that guacamole for days if I could.

Very quiet in the mornings to purchase your breakfast selections, arrive 10am or afterwards and you can request to purchase the lunch time menu. I was grateful of the team allowing this BUT I feel the burritos are becoming smaller and prices rising. Quality of food and service is still on point but pricing is off putting for value for money 💴

Found this place on our Taco Tuesdays adventure. We thought the tacos were very reasonably priced at $2.99 per chicken, fish or pork taco. We also had couple of glasses of their house-made sangria which came in at $5 each. Bargain! 😂 The food itself was incredibly tasty. No lack of flavour here! Each taco filling had its own distinct taste and the fact that they weren’t too large meant we could try them all. The staff were super friendly and humble. They were so thankful when we expressed our delight and tipped them. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks guys!

Really lovely people and food was great. Closes too early on a weekend which means we were a little rushed for dinner. Needs to supply more tortillas with fajatis particularly if they are going to close kitchen before we finish and require to order more. But overall lovely, clean, well priced and food was good.

It's my first to have a Mexican food in restaurant. Amazing! We ordered Nacho (beef) - blended avocado and cream cheese side was very nice.. and also ordered chicken sth.. actually I forgot menu ..😅 anyway there was long cheese in the center . Left side is fried rice and right side is black been! Amazing! Thank you for me to experience good Mexican food! And don't forget to try Mexican soda (non - alcohol drinks)

Disappointing..... I love this place .... Reasonable price and good quality of burrito always!! My bf and I love hot sauce and we asked extra 2 hot sauce today. After I got home, we realized that one of the container barley had any hot sauce inside... So disppointing. I paid $25 not $2 ... I think to get 2 extra hot sauce is not a big deal for them... I feel like they were just lazy to open new bottle of hot sauce when they only had 1 customer in the shop.. Hope it will be better!!!!!

Told very clearly what I want, two quesadillas and two orange drinks. How hard it can be? When I got to the cashier I only got 1 quesadilla. Had to repeat my order. They also got salsa sauces mixed. Ok service. Ok layout. Ok food served. I came for the pineapple experience And didn’t leave disappointed in fact it was quite delicious. However the quality of the burrito made wasn’t exactly as good as I anticipated. Not to say I had a bad experience at all it was just a very average experience. Hence why I can’t give this five stars in total. I’d still recommend checking this out if you’re after a quick feed and maybe have had a few drinks.

As a Texan, I wanted to see how Australia did Mexican food. It wasnt bad! I would say it is mostly tex mex style, served similarly to Chipotle. Not a real extensive menus, but enough to get your Mexican food fix.

In the Mexican fast food hierarchy, Mad Mex at the bottom. Guzman y Gomez are the best and then Zambrero is in second place. The food is left in a bain-marie all day until it is ordered and then it's unceremoniously slapped onto your burrito or into your taco. All the dishes taste the same. This iteration of Mad Mex is not usually busy and it serves beer, which is good. The store is clean and tid. Note, that they don't have toilets (or they won't let customers use them?).

A complete flop. Here on a Sunday for a quick bite and found a rip-off fast food. Very little portions and taste. Don’t recommend it. Unless you like lettuce for food. Get a pizza at the ship in if you are around the quay area because everything in this food court is for the poor tourist.

Amazing authentic Mexican food! Best I've had outside Mexico. Well crafted sauces, delicious "real" ingredients, (fresh corn tortillas that don't taste like cardboard). Very lively atmosphere. Best to book ahead. Will definitely be back!

Fun Mexican restaurant in Glebe. Atmosphere is understated but trendy and stylish, I really like the locked liquor cabinet and chilli sauce wall. The food tastes like authentic Mexican, with plenty of vegan options. While perhaps not exactly perfect, I still found it enjoyable. Service has always been friendly whenever I have visited. I’d consider it best suited for casual, relaxed dining (not a fine dining or fussy experience) but with this in mind, still suitable for a date or for group dining with family and friends.

First pros: the brisket chimichanga was beautifully cook, good size, good flavours, good texture. The service was fast and decent. Then cons: one of our plates never arrived so that made the experience a bit bitter. The Margaritas were quite disappointed, to much sugar and juice almost none tequila.

Use to be a favourite a few years back. Things have changed, it’s grown bigger and the decor has been uplifted. Not sure if it was for the better. Think they have tried too hard to be a little up market and lost the authentic feel. Charging $3 for additions salsa for their Fajitas seems like taking the p1ss too.

Food and cocktails were good. But terrible customer service. Definitely won't be back again which is a pity because would like to try more cocktails! If it wasn't for the good food/drink, I'd give them a lower rating.

Believe bad reviews....unlike how I ignored. Skip this place if possible. Only the drinks and quessedillas turned out to be good. The lamb meatball was very hard but flavourful and the chicken chimichanga had smelly chicken and had to be sent back. The worn out cutlery to cut through the hard meat ball was a joke and even after exchanging it was the same. As others mentioned the waitress gave a look of contempt.
